About The Role
In this role, you will drive engineering plastics application alongside with the commercial team, providing technical advisory on part design, processing, tooling, and materials to optimize product quality and material processing, while also developing and training colleagues in engineering plastics expertise.
How You Will Do It
1. Provide Technical Advisory through wholistic view covering the area of part design, processing, tooling and material related to achieve quality part output.
- Processing:
- Demonstrate a strong understanding and practical application of processing techniques. Optimize processes to achieve high-quality parts through on-site trials.
- Oversee efforts in injection moulding processes and support secondary processes in extrusion.
- Material:
- Apply knowledge of material characteristics in relation to application and good understanding of customer requirements translated into material selection.
- Interpret material properties and translate them into applications based on customer requirements, including flammability, mechanical, thermal, electrical, rheological, chemical, and physical properties.
- Mould/Tooling:
- Work with various types of moulds. Recommend Mould/Tooling modification and root cause, to improve moulding and productivity to achieve a broader processing window.
- Part Design:
- Contribute to part design by applying foundational design for manufacturing principles: Interpret CAE results.
- Provide recommendations for part design improvement and effectively communicating insights to customers.
2. Engage with key customers, contract manufacturers and strategic moulders technical decision-makers for project progress and opportunities through supporting sales organization.
3. Support technical marketing on:
- Implementation of Segment Marketing Road Map
- Transferring know-how related to Application and Material to frontlines
4. Collaborate with commercial team on:
- project development to meet targets
- promoting BASF through technical events,
- developing success stories for selected projects,
- addressing customer complaints on technical issues
5. Assess project feasibility to determine overall viability of application and part design.
What We Look For
- Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or Production Engineering, or a diploma with relevant experience in the plastics and/or chemical industry; a major in plastics is a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in the plastics or plastic resin industry, with a preference for candidates with experience in technical service support or similar roles, and experience working with OEMs or contract manufacturers in plastics engineering or injection moulding management.
- Strong knowledge of processing and moulding, with expertise in polymer processing, troubleshooting, tooling design, and auxiliary processing equipment; familiarity with other processing techniques, such as extrusion, is a plus.
- Basic understanding of engineering thermoplastics, specialty plastics, and thermoplastic polyurethane is required, along with hands-on experience.
- Basic knowledge of part design, particularly related to processes, is also required.
- Strong problem-solving and facilitation skills, with the ability to interact with customers to gather technical insights on application processes and material requirements.
- Proficient in project management and ability to read basic engineering drawings
- Willingness to travel on an ad hoc basis to other ASEAN and ANZ countries.
